Beamer'n Glick broke his maiden one day early. Beamer'n Glick was named by breeders Mark Toothaker and Frank Newman after Todd Beamer and Jeremy Glick, who were two of the four men credited with overwhelming three terrorists on board United Airlines Flight 93 and bringing the plane down in Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001. The horse named in their honor broke his maiden Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Arlington Park.
Richard Hazelton trains Beamer'n Glick for Ben Barnow. Yesterday's race was his second start.
"It would have been fitting if it was on Sept. 11th but the 10th is pretty close," said Toothaker, who still follows the colt. "He was on the lead and actually was passed in the stretch but fought back to be in front at the wire. I think I know where he got that extra punch to come back."
