by Dan JohnsonThe sale of Iowa-bred Lovethatlegend to New York interests is official, owner Vickie Cosaert said Sept. 8.
"I have mixed feelings," Cosaert said. "It's hard to lose one. On the other hand, she'll be a little more tested and can make more of a name for herself in New York. I've got my fingers crossed. I think she'll do real well. We never really tested her."
Cosaert and husband Richard, of Logan, Iowa, had agreed to sell Lovethatlegend for an Iowa-bred record $365,000, pending a veterinary examination. The daughter of Gold Legend has won three of four races .
After New York veterinarians examined three sets of X rays taken the week of Sept. 1, bloodstock agent Mark Reid called the Cosaerts to say the sale was on. The filly will be sent to Lisa Lewis' barn in New York. Reid said the buyer is Peter Karches, whose horses include the 3-year-old colt Dynever.
"We would have liked to have kept her, but that was a lot of money to turn down," Vickie Cosaert said. "The money will pay off our farm. We have three yearlings that we think will be real good."
