Zippy Chippy remained winless after 98 races and 10 seasons of racing in spite of a game effort Saturday at Northampton Fair in Massachusetts.

The 12-year-old Zippy Chippy was in position to win the first race of the day, a five-furlong heat for maiden special weights, on the turn for home but tired in the stretch to finish second, beaten by 1 1/2 lengths. An objection was lodged against the winner of the race, Short Notice, by the rider of another horse, and for the five minutes it took for officials to review it, Zippy Chippy was as close to winning as he has ever been.

Owned and trained by Felix Monserrate, has eight seconds and 12 thirds in his career with earnings of more than $30,000.
