Ramon Dominguez, the nation's leading rider in 2003, rode three winners on Friday's card at Pimlico, including his 300th of the year when he guided Palace Royale ($13.20) home in the seventh race.
The 2001 national riding champion leads all jockeys in victories this season with 301, seven more than Northern California star Russell Baze.
"I am very proud of the accomplishment," said Dominguez, who has collected 128 of his victories this year at Pimlico and Laurel Park. "When you ride every day you don't realize how many wins you have. It is a big accomplishment and I owe it all to my agent Steve Rushing and all the trainers who support us."
The 26-year old also visited the winners' circle on Seeyouattheevent ($7.60 in the third) and Landler ($4.60 in the ninth). The win was the seventh of the year for Landler. Only three horses have more victories in 2003.
"I started to think about the national riding championship as soon as I got close to Russell," added the soft-spoken Dominguez. "He was like 50 ahead of me in June. I am determined to win it again, but compared to two years ago it is a more relaxed atmosphere. Russell Baze is extremely difficult to beat because he wins four or five races a day like it is nothing. But I ride a lot of good horses so I can do it."
