Del Mar Futurity (gr. II) prospect Perfect Moon was sold today by owners Annabelle Stute and The Hat Ranch to Royce Jaime for a price characterized as "mid-six figures."
The 2-year-old gelded son of Malibu Moon moves to the barn of Doug O'Neill, who has been training horses for Jaime for about two years. Jaime is in the telephone and cable television construction business.
O'Neill said the Maryland-bred would still have leading rider Pat Valenzuela in the irons for next Wednesday's $250,000 Futurity. Also, O'Neill said he would follow previous trainer Mel Stute's "old-school" training regimen calling for Perfect Moon to have a 3-furlong blowout for the race on Monday.
Dennis O'Neill, the trainer's brother and Jaime's representative in the transaction, said Jaime became involved in the negotiations on Tuesday, and the deal was closed this morning.
