Grade II winner Dr. Brendler has been retired from racing after coming out of the Aug. 9 Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap (gr. IT) at Saratoga with a torn suspensory ligament.A homebred for Francis J. O'Toole, 5-year-old Dr. Brendler scored his major win in this year's Citgo Dixie Stakes (gr. IIT) at Pimlico and also placed in the Manhattan (gr. IT) and Stars and Stripes Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IIIT) Handicaps.Dr. Brendler began his racing career in Ireland, where he was group stakes-placed as a 2-year-old. The following year, the son of English champion miler Distant View captured the Leopardstown Two Thousand Guineas Trial.Trained in the U.S. by H. Graham Motion, Dr. Brendler was retired with five wins from 29 starts and earnings of $377,517. Produced from the Vision mare Lady of Vision, Dr. Brendler is a half-brother to stakes winner Polish Vision and stakes-placed Leading Question.No decision has been reached as to where he will enter stud.
