Matt Garcia, who has been a frequent rider on the Southern California circuit for trainers Mel and Warren Stute, Barry Abrams and Douglas Peterson over the past several years, is taking his tack eastward.
Garcia, who was aboard 2002 Sorrento Stakes (gr. II) winner Buffythecenterfold for one of his four stakes victories at the seashore, will head to Philadelphia Park Tuesday after finishing his Del Mar commitments on Monday.
The 33-year-old native of San Jose, Calif., said he would be riding first call for trainer Mark Shuman, who handles a large string of horses for owner Michael Gill.
