Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner Fusaichi Pegasus, who closed out his career with a sixth-place finish in the Nov. 4 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), will stand for $150,000 at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky. The 3-year-old colt arrived at the farm, a satellite of Irish-based Coolmore Stud, the day after the Breeders' Cup. Coolmore, owned by John Magnier and partners and a leader in shuttling stallions north and south of the equator, has not yet determined whether
Fusaichi Pegasus will stand the 2001 Southern Hemisphere season or how many mares he will cover next breeding season at Ashford.
Fusaichi Pegasus (Mr. Prospector -- Angel Fever, by Danzig) also won the Wood Memorial (gr. II) and San Felipe (gr. II) Stakes and the Jerome Handicap (gr. II). He also ran second in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I). He enters stud with a record of six wins from nine starts and earnings of $1,994,400. At the Keeneland November sale on Nov. 7, Fusaichi Pegasus' full sister, Blissful (in foal to Deputy Minister), was sold to Magnier for $4 million.
