Stevens May be Ready to Gallop Horses

Jockey Gary Stevens, injured in a fall at the finish of the Arlington Million (gr. IT) Aug. 16, may try to get back up on horses Thursday at Del Mar and hopes to be back to riding next week, according to his agent, Craig O'Bryan.

"He might try to gallop some tomorrow," O'Bryan said on the backside Wednesday morning. "We're looking good for him to ride here the last week of the meet. He hoped to ride this weekend, but that may be too soon. I spoke to him yesterday and he said he was feeling a whole lot better."

The Hall of Fame rider was expected to miss 30 days following his near-disastrous fall from the bolting Storming Home at the wire in the turf race. He sustained a collapsed lung and a broken bone in his upper vertebra in the accident.
