State of Art, who has rated comparison to the champion mare Triptych by her trainer David Smaga, proved best over the final furlong to post a three-quarters of a length victory in Sunday's Prix de la Nonette (Fr-III) for 3-year-old fillies at Deauville.
Ridden by Dominique Boeuf, the French bred daughter of Highest Honor, grabbed the lead from HOH Buzzard less than 1 1/2 furlong from home in the 1 1/4-mile group test and proved the better of the two in the run home. Felicity was a head behind in third.
A fractured front leg cannon bone sidelined State of Art last year. Smaga, who trained Triptych when she won the 1984 Prix Marcel Boussac, thinks she may be the best he has trained since then.
State of Art has never been worse than second in eight starts.
