Keeneland will host a memorial service for prominent owner/breeder Robert E. Sangster, who died last week at his London home following a battle with cancer.
The memorial service will be held on Monday, April 19 at 11 a.m. in the second floor of the Keeneland Clubhouse overlooking the paddock.
Sangster was a highly successful owner and breeder in Europe who made international headlines in the 1970s and 1980s for his record-setting purchases at the Keeneland sales. In 1985, he and a group of partners purchased Seattle Dancer for $13.1 million dollars in 1985-a world record that stands to this day.
He raced Epsom Derby winners The Minstrel (1977) and Golden Fleece (1982) and two-time Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Alleged, all purchased at Keeneland.
