From Del Mar Press Notes -- Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone has been assigned to ride the undefeated Argentine-bred Candy Ride in Sunday's $1-million Pacific Classic at Del Mar.Krone, who is the second leading rider at the Del Mar meet, replaces Gary Stevens, who suffered a collapsed lung and a fractured vertebra in a freak spill at the finish of Saturday's Arlington Million at Arlington Park. The decision by owners Sid and Jenny Craig was announced this morning by trainer Ron McAnally. Post-position draw for the 13th running of the seaside track's signature event will be held tonight at The Lodge at Torrey Pines Golf Course.Candy Ride, winner of two Group I races in Argentina and the Grade II American Handicap at Hollywood Park July 4, is expected to be joined by four others in the field for the 1 1/4-mile, Grade I race. They are: Triple millionaire and richest North American runner in training Medaglia d'Oro; two-time Santa Anita Handicap winner Milwaukee Brew; multiple stakes winner Kudos, and Fleetstreet Dancer, a 5-year-old son of Smart Strike that has pocketed nearly a quarter-million in earnings. All will carry 124 pounds.Medaglia d'Oro, owned by Edmund Gann, and the Frank Stronach-owned Milwaukee Brew will carry Hall of Fame trainer Robert Frankel's hopes for a seventh victory in the Pacific Classic. Milwaukee Brew finished third to Came Home in last year's running, following two straight wins by Frankel trainee Skimming in 2000 and 2001. Frankel had won four straight earlier in the series: Missionary Ridge in 1992, Bertrando in 1993 and Tinners Way in 1994 and '95.The Frankel pair arrived early-afternoon Monday at Del Mar after a flight from Saratoga Racecourse in New York where they have been stabled with Frankel's New York string. They both jogged on the main track Tuesday and galloped over the oval this morning. They have completed their major work for Sunday's race with sharp workouts on Saturday at Saratoga.Jerry Bailey will ride Medaglia d'Oro and Edgar Prado has the call on Milwaukee Brew. Trainer Frankel is expected at Del Mar on Sunday morning, according to chief assistant Humberto Ascanio. Ascanio also said Frankel expects to return to New York soon after Sunday's race.Hall of Fame trainer McAnally said this morning Candy Ride would work either Thursday of Friday. He would go either a half-mile or 5 furlongs, since his major work for the race - two one-mile workouts -- is finished. McAnally said it's likely Krone will work Candy Ride. The son of Ride the Rails galloped 1 _ miles this morning. Both Kudos, trained by Hall of Fame conditioner Richard Mandella, and the Doug O'Neill-trained Fleetstreet Dancer, owned by Lee and Ty Leatherman, galloped again this morning, with Kudos, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Moss, getting set for a final workout on Thursday. Mandella assistant Becky Witzman said a half-mile work is planned.
