The Louisiana State Racing Commission denied the request of jockey Donnie Meche's request for a racing license in the state. The commission voted 4-2 during an Aug. 18 meeting to deny the license.
Meche's current riding license expired June 30 and the rider was seeking to renew his license until his original suspension could be heard in district court.
According to a report in the New Orleans
Times-Picayune, the commission suspended Meche in April for failing do his best to win a January race at Delta Downs. Following that ruling, Meche appealed to a civil district court that issued the rider a stay that puts the suspension hold until the case can be heard in court. A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26.
