Cardiff Stud Farms announced that Al Mamoon has been pensioned from stallion duty at the Creston, Calif., nursery. The 22-year-old millionaire son of Believe It did not cover any mares this year and is represented by only two yearlings and three 2-year-olds.

Al Mamoon, whose runners have earned nearly $6 million, is the sire of two-time graded winner Onceinabluemamoon, plus several other multiple stakes winners. Onceinabluemamoon's graded scores came in 1995 in the Las Palmas (gr. IIT) and Hillsborough (gr. IIIT) Handicaps. Another of Al Mamoon's runners, Half Mamoon, won the 1996 Early Times California Cup Mile Handicap on turf.

As a racehorse, Al Mamoon won five graded stakes, including the 1987 John Henry Handicap (gr. IT) in what was his final start. He retired with 11 wins from 32 starts and earnings of $1,249,906 from racing in the U.S. and Europe. He was the first of five stakes winners produced from his dam, Lady Winborne (by Secretariat).
