Valenzuela Replaces Stevens in Match Race With Krone

Jockey Patrick Valenzuela has agreed to replace the injured Gary Stevens in a match race against Julie Krone scheduled for Sunday, September 7, at Del Mar. Billed as the Battle of the Sexes Match Race, the event will pit the pair in a two-turn race on equally matched horses.

The horses will be chosen in a blind draw.

Going into today's races, Krone and Valenzuela are tied at the top of the Del Mar rider standings with 23 victories each.

Stevens was injured in a freak spill at the finish of the Arlington Million last Saturday and will be out of racing for approximately 30 days to recuperate.
