Medaglia d'Oro and Milwaukee Brew, trainer Bobby Frankel's twin prospects for victory number seven in Del Mar's $1-million Pacific Classic (gr. I), are scheduled to be flown to Southern California Monday from Saratoga Racecourse in New York to complete their preparations for Sunday's race.
Both horses turned in their final serious workouts Saturday over Saratoga's main track. Two-time Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) winner Milwaukee Brew, owned by Stronach Stables, fired a bullet 1:12 3/5 for six furlongs with regular rider Edgar Prado in the irons in company with Empire Maker. Edmund Gann's Medaglia d'Oro, recent winner of Saratoga's Whitney Handicap (gr. I), clipped off five furlongs in 1:00 2/5 under exercise rider Rudy Rodriguez.
Prado has the call on Milwaukee Brew for the Pacific Classic and Jerry Bailey will ride Medaglia d'Oro.
The prospective field for the 13th running of the Pacific Classic may reach six by entry time Wednesday. Trainer Dan Hendricks said this morning he most likely would enter Reba's Gold, and "take a look at things."
He added, "I'm trying to keep my options open." Reba's Gold is owned by Alex Trebek's Creston Farms and will be ridden by David Flores.
Also committed to the race are Candy Ride, Fleetstreet Dancer and Kudos.
