Beautiful Bid, the dam of champion Beautiful Pleasure and multiple grade I winner and sire Mecke, was purchased by Gaines-Gentry Thoroughbreds for $2.6 million to top Sunday's November Selected Sale conducted by Fasig-Tipton Kentucky. Consigned by FitzGerald/Keogh, Beautiful Bid is in foal to leading sire Storm Cat. The 16-year-old daughter of Baldski has also produced multiple stakes winner Jeb.
Summer Wind Farm paid the sale's second-highest price of $850,000 for Alizea, a 12-year-old daughter of Permiership whose progeny include multiple stakes winners Island Emperor and Lifeisawhirl. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, Alizea is in foal to Exploit, who entered stud at Taylor Made this year.
Fasig-Tipton reported 57 horses were sold for a gross of $7,625,000 and an average price of $133,772. At last year's sale, 63 horses averaged $158,770 from a gross of $10,002,500. The buyback rate doubled from last year, with the 40 horses reported not sold representing 41% of the 97 through the ring. At last year's sale, 13 of 76 horses were reported as not sold.
