Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT) winner Perfect Sting may return for a 2001 campaign, according to trainer Joe Orseno. Saturday's race was expected to be her last, but, according to a Churchill Downs press release, the conditioner said the Stronach Stable filly is likely to return to the races next year.

Orseno also said he feels Perfect Sting deserves consideration for Horse of the Year honors.

"To win that honor, a horse has to have been around all year and shown up at every race," Orseno said. "Well, she's done that. She had six races this year and won five. The only horse she lost to (Tout Charmant), she came back and beat (Saturday). I think she is as deserving as anybody."

Orseno also offered more measured praise of Juvenile winner Macho Uno, calling the horse "stupid."

"He was drifting in the lane, but again that was stupidity and being green," the trainer said. "He is very playful. ... He is a horse that has room for development. The horses he beat (Saturday) are way ahead of him."

Orseno said Macho Uno will also be shipped to Ocala to prepare for his 3-year-old season, which will likely begin at Gulfstream Park.
