Senor Swinger, a prime candidate for Saturday's 63rd La Jolla Handicap, a prep for the Del Mar Derby on Saturday, September 6, turned in a strong half-mile work in 47.20 Monday morning over the Jimmy Durante Turf Course at Del Mar.

Senor Swinger, who is owned by Robert and Beverly Lewis and trained by Bob Baffert, is 2 for 3 on the turf, having captured the American Turf and the Jefferson Cup, both Grade III events at Churchill Downs before finishing fourth in his last start, the Virginia Derby on July 12 at Colonial Downs.

Another prospect in what could be a full field for the Grade III, $150,000 turf race, Temeritas, hung up a 1:02.20 time for 5 furlongs on the turf this morning for trainer Carla Gaines.

Expected to join this pair are winners of both divisions of the Oceanside Stakes on opening day, Devious Boy and Sweet Return, plus Bis Repetitis, Fairly Ransom, Ministers Wild Cat, Puma, Stanley Park and Singletary.
