Sue's Good News made amends for her sixth-place finish in last month's Delaware Oaks (gr. III) with a come-from-behind 1 1/4-length score in the $100,000 Singapore Plate (gr. III) Saturday at Arlington Park.
The 3-year-old filly test was clocked in 1:50.53 for the1 1/8 mile over a fast track.
Tim Doocy rode the Steve Hobby-trained daughter of Woodman, who picked up her fifth victory in six trips to the post. The $60,000 winner's share boosted her bankroll to $160,800 for owners CresRan LLC.
Racing in the middle of the pack through the first three-quarters of a mile, Doocy swung Sue's Good News wide as the field of nine sophomores turned for home.
"I was sitting in behind the leaders," said the Louisiana-based Doocy, who has ridden Sue's Good News in every one of her races. "On the last turn, I was watching the horses. It looked like Eddie Razo (aboard Keeping the Gold) had the most horse and he was the one I was keeping an eye on. I didn't want him to pull away from me before I got a chance to let my filly run. When I got a chance to get her to the outside and gave her a chance to run, she responded real well."
Illinois-bred Keeping the Gold made a five-wide move on the final turn and took a short lead in the stretch but was no match for the winner.
"She ran hard," said Eusebio Razo Jr. of the runner-up. "She's a nice filly. We have no excuse today we just go beat by a better horse. She ran by us like we were standing still."
It was seven lengths back to third-place finisher Meet Me At Midnite. Julie's Prize, Splasha, Lil Scout, Wildwood Royal, Golden Reptashn and Austin's Mom completed the order of finish.
Sent off as the 2-1 favorite, Sue's Good News paid $6.80, $3.60 and $3.20. Keeping the Gold paid $4.20 and $3.40. Meet Me At Midnite returned $4.40.
