Slewsbox, who won the 2002 Desert Stormer Handicap (gr. III), died Jan. 28 after battling two separate illnesses. The one that took her life was colic. The 6-year-old Slewdledo mare was back in training with the intent of racing in 2003.

Leonard Dunham and Jerome Gardipee bred Slewsbox in Washington and raced the mare in their silks. Both men live in Washington state. In 2001, Slewsbox was named the state's top sprinter, and in 2002, she earned honors as the champion sprinter and top older mare.

Slewsbox, who was produced from the Pappy mare Single Style, made all but one of her starts for California trainer Chuck Peery. She earned $261,085 and won nine of her 14 lifetime starts.
