The highly acclaimed Candy Ride, winner of the American Handicap (gr. IIT) at Hollywood Park July 4, took another step along the road to the $1 million Pacific Classic (gr. I) with a sizzling seven-furlong workout Friday morning.Owned by Sid and Jenny Craig of nearby Rancho Santa Fe and trained by Hall of Fame conditioner Ron McAnally, Candy Ride scorched the main track in 1:23.60.It was the second spectacular work for Candy Ride, who drilled a bullet 1:11 for six furlongs on July 26.Dan Landers, McAnally's assistant trainer, said of the work: "It was a very impressive move. We're on the path (to the Pacific Classic)." Regular stable work rider Pat Dalton was in the irons. The 1 1/4-mile Pacific Classic, which has been under something of a stranglehold by trainer Robert Frankel, who has won six of the 12 runnings, will be contested on Aug. 24.
