Hollywood Gold Cup winner Congaree, a possible starter in Del Mar's Pacific Classic (gr. I) worked a sharp six furlongs Thursday morning at Del Mar.
The 5-year-old colt, owned by Robert and Janice McNair's Stonerside Stable and trained by Bob Baffert, went the distance in 1:12.80 in his first work since winning the Gold Cup July 13. Dana Barnes, Baffert's top work rider, was in the irons.
A pleased Baffert said Congaree, who won the Del Mar Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) at a mile last season, "went nice and easy. It was just a way to keep him working."
Asked if he was looking at the Pacific Classic as a next start for Congaree, Baffert replied quickly, "I'm not looking at anything yet."
