By a vote of 20-0, the Senate Banking Committee Thursday unanimously approved the Unlawful Internet Gambling Prohibition Act.

The Senate bill does contain a specific exemption for horseracing, but does not include the broader exception for "lawful transactions with a business licensed or authorized by a State" that was included in a similar bill, House Bill H.R. 2143, which was passed in June.

"It is encouraging that members of Congress continue to recognize the unique position of the horseracing industry in regard to this issue," said NTRA deputy commissioner Greg Avioli.

The bill now moves to the full Senate.
