Edward P. Evans' Gygistar won Friday's third race at Saratoga, a six-furlong allowance event, by 5 3/4 lengths under Jerry Bailey. The 4-year-old Prospector's Music gelding had not raced since finishing unplaced in the Deputy Minister Handicap (Gr. III) at Gulfstream Park Feb. 9. He suffered a chip in his knee shortly thereafter.
Following a stalking trip, Gygistar hit the wire in 1:09 2/5 over Saratoga's fast track. He returned $3.30. "It went perfectly," said trainer Mark Hennig. "If he comes out of the race well, we'll be looking at the Forego (Aug. 31, grade I)."
Gygistar won last year's King's Bishop (gr. I) at Saratoga.
