Glen Murphy, the 1991 Sunland Park jockey champion, reached a milestone when he brought home his 2,000th career winner March 29.
The 37-year-old rider won with Desert Sword in the 9th race at 6 1/2 furlongs. Murphy brought the favorite from off the pace for an easy score.
Murphy also won the $28,600 featured allowance aboard 6-5 favorite Red Lifesaver for local owners Kirk and Judy Robison.
Murphy is enjoying a solid meet this season following an injury sustained at Hawthorne Park in Chicago in 2003. He is in fourth place among Thoroughbred riders at Sunland Park.
