National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) Commissioner D.G.Van Clief Jr. will address the Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers' Club's (KTFMC) monthly meeting May 3 at the Crowne Plaza in Lexington. In addition to an update from Van Clief on the NTRA, Greg Avioli will discuss racing industry legislation.
Van Clief, current commissioner and CEO of the NTRA, also serves as president of Breeders' Cup Ltd. and as chairman of Fasig-Tipton Co. He was appointed executive director of the Breeders' Cup in 1982 and is a founder of the NTRA and served as interim CEO until Tim Smith was named commissioner in 1998. He is the recipient of numerous Thoroughbred industry recognitions including the Eclipse Award of Merit, TOBA Service Award, and the Inaugural Jockey Club Medal.
Avioli, vice president for legislative and corporate planning with NTRA, spearheads horse racing's legislative agenda and lobbying initiatives at the federal level. He chairs the Wagering Systems Task Force and is the chief negotiator and deal-maker for the NTRA.
Joe Morris of NTRA Purchasing will also be on hand to give the club an update of the latest opportunities available to members.
