Following published reports indicating that an undisclosed injury would force trainer Bobby Frankel to keep Dollar Bill out of action for two months or more, officials overseeing the Breeders' Cup Future Bet have announced that bets will not be accepted on Dollar Bill in the Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I) when future wagering on that event opens this Friday at 1:00 p.m. ET. Dollar Bill (program number 3 in Future Bet wagering on the Classic) will not be replaced by another horse.
Future wagering on the Classic during Period 1 will now be taken on 22 individual horses, plus a pari-mutuel field consisting of all horses other than the named 22. Betting numbers for the 22 remaining horses remain the same, with the field entry for the Classic remaining as number 24.
"With the nature of the setback unknown at this time, our selection committee believed it was prudent to remove Dollar Bill from the Classic field," said Ken Kirchner, NTRA senior vice president of product development. "I think this is fairest for the fans, many of whom may not be aware of the setback, and best for the integrity of the wagering process."
Breeders' Cup Future Bet wagering on the Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge, the Breeders' Cup Distaff Presented by Nextel, the Breeders' Cup Sprint and the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf will open at outlets nationwide this Friday, July 25 at 1:00 p.m. ET and remain open until 9:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 27. All wagering is win-only, with a $2.00 minimum.
