Stronach Stable's Euchre and Stonerside Stable's Freefourracing have been scratched from Saturday's Breeders' Cup races. Euchre has been bothered by a cough and Freefourracing has a minor bruise on a hoof.
The decision to scratch Euchre was made after an endoscopic examination by Dr. Ken Reed revealed the colt had some mucous in his lungs. Reed told trainer Bobby Frankel Euchre would not get sick if he ran Saturday but that he might not run well due to the cough that has bothered him. Frankel decided to scratch Euchre after speaking to Dan Hall, manager of owner Frank Stronach's Adena Springs Farm.
Euchre, a 4-year-old gelding by Personal Flag, won the 2000 edition of the Bel Air Handicap (gr. II) and was third in the Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II), with total earnings of $360,045.
Frankel said Euchre will now be pointed toward a dirt race that is part of the Japan Cup.
Also Saturday morning, trainer Neil Drysdale said that he had directed Breeders' Cup officials to scratch Stonerside Stable's Freefourracing out of the Juvenile Fillies due to a bruise on the filly's left front hoof.
Drysdale said the French Deputy filly had a little bit of tenderness stemming from a bruise apparently caused by a glue-on shoe. He said previously Freefourracing would be pointed toward the Dec. 17 Hollywood Starlet if she did not run in the Breeders' Cup.
