Heinrich Ohrdorf's Picotee and jockey Jimmy Quinn battled for the final furlong to produce a hard-fought neck victory Sunday in the Lotto Hessen-Pokal (Ger-III) at Frankfurt.

In a three-horse blanket finish to the 1 1/-4-mile feature, Picotee, at odds of nearly 12-1, held off a determined Caluna, the least fancied of four starters for trainer Andreas Schutz in 10-horse field. Corriolanus, who set the pace before being collared by Picotee with two furlongs to go, was a head farther back after refusing to give way. The final time on good going was 2:07.16.

All three riders of the top finishers – Quinn, Norman Richter on Caluna, and Andreas Suborics aboard Corriolanus – were fined for excessive use of whip. Richter, who has been in trouble for similar offences already this season, was given a four-day suspension.

Picotee, a 6-year-old German-bred gelded son of Local Suitor, was debuting in top company, winning a first group race winner for his trainer, Dr Andreas Bolte.
