Apprentice jockey Eddie Castro rode the winners of five races from ten mounts at Calder Race Course on Saturday, just one victory short of the single day record of six.
The 18-year-old native of Panama began riding at Calder this season and is currently second in the jockey standings behind runaway leader Manoel Cruz.
Castro won race one with Canuto ($6.60), race four on Rosies Wild Lips ($6.60), race five aboard Marco's Word ($5.20), race six on Grand Red ($7.80), and race 10 with Skip Past ($7.20)
The record for most wins in a single day (6) during the Calder meet is held by four jockeys. They are George Gomez (May 12, 1977), Walter Guerra (Oct. 3, 1979), Rene Douglas (July 15, 1995) and Eibar Coa (Sept. 7, 1998).
