Slew the Red, a French group winner and grade II stakes-placed in the U.S., has been retired from racing for stud duties. "He's off to be a stallion in South Africa," said trainer Neil Drysdale, who trained the 6-year-old son of Red Ransom for Sheikh Maktoum. "He's in quarantine now in Kentucky."
Slew the Red finished second in the June 21 Dallas Turf Cup Handicap in his final start after winning a turf allowance May 1 at Hollywood Park. Last year, he ran third in the Dixie Handicap (gr. IIT) at Pimlico. In France, two of his four stakes wins came in group events.
Slew the Red, who was bred by W Lazy T, recorded five firsts in 22 starts and earnings of $275,313. He was produced from the Seattle Slew mare Great Lady Slew, and his second dam, Great Lady Sharon, is a half-sister to Horse of the Year Lady's Secret.
