Joseph V. Vitello's homebred Tenpins rallied from just off the pace to earn a two-length victory over Bowman's Band in Saturday's $350,000 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III). Under Robby Albarado, the Michigan-bred son of Smart Strike completed the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.39 on a fast track.
Tenpins raced just behind Colorful Tour and Patton's Victory through a half-mile in :46.42 before moving to the lead before running six furlongs in 1:10.37. Tenpins spurted clear of Bowman's Band in the stretch en route to the victory. Bowman's Band finished 5 1/2 lengths ahead of Woodmoon, with Patton's Victory another 4 3/4 lengths back in fourth. Colorful Tour and Slider completed the order of finish.
The win marks the eight in 12 career starts for Tenpins, who was making his 5-year-old debut for trainer Donald Winfree.
Sent off at 13-10, Tenpins returned $4.60 for the win. The winning exacta combination paid $12.60. (Chart,
