Ellis Park was forced to cancel racing on opening day of its summer meet Wednesday after four races due to severe thunderstorms in the Henderson, Ky., region that caused conditions to be unsafe.

The track was drenched by a storm that included lightning, thunder and heavy wind shortly before post time for the fourth race on the 10-race card.

Turf races for Thursday were switched to the main track.
