Bull Market, who battled Vindication
for the lead in the 2002 Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I), has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Doug Arnold's Buck Pond Farm near Versailles, Ky.
Bred in Kentucky by Malinda L. Fiveash and Cheryl Green, Bull Market opened his 2-year-old campaign with a :57.28 triumph at five furlongs at Del Mar for owner James McIngvale and trainer Bob Baffert. Two races later, he missed winning the Norfolk Stakes (gr. II) at Oak Tree by a nose to Kafwain
In the Juvenile, Bull Market engaged in a spirited duel with subsequent champion 2-year-old male Vindication and held the lead after a 1:09.98 fraction for six furlongs. Bull Market remained prominent through part of the stretch and finished fourth to him.
Bull Market, who won later in his career at Keeneland and Churchill Downs, retired with four wins from 13 starts and earnings of $232,856. He is a full brother to stakes winner Tru Bull and is out of the Capote mare Capote Miss. She is a half-sister to three stakes winners, including grade I winner Share the Fantasy and grade II winner Tokatee.
A fee will be announced later.
