Colonial Affair, Southern Halo to Argentina

Colonial Affair, winner of the 1993 Belmont Stakes (gr. I), and prominent stallion Southern Halo will stand the Southern Hemisphere breeding season in Argentina. Both stallions stood the past breeding season at Arrow Stud in Japan.

Colonial Affair, a 13-year-old son of Pleasant Colony out of the Nijinsky II mare Snuggle, has been purchased by Argentine nursery Haras El Paraiso and John Berendt of New York. U.S. bloodstock agents Carlos S.E. Moore and Rollin Baugh arranged the deal. Colonial Affair, who began his stallion career at Graham J. Beck's Gainesway Farm near Lexington, has sired 14 stakes winners.

Twenty-year-old Southern Halo (Halo -- Northern Sea, by Northern Dancer) will be returning permanently to Haras La Quebrada, He stood there a number of years before he was moved to Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky., for the 1996 breeding season. Southern Halo, one of a dozen stallions to have sired 100 or more stakes winners while standing at least one season in North America, frequently shuttled back to Haras La Quebrada after he was based to Ashford. Southern Halo has sired 117 stakes winners.
