The Tattersalls July auction opened in strong fashion Tuesday in England. The sale company reported that the average surged 32% from a year ago to a record for an opening session of 14,451 guineas (approximately $25,034 in U.S. funds). The gross for the 56 horses sold was 809,300 guineas ($1,401,857), second only to last year's opening session total.
The unraced Rainbow Quest mare Allumette brought the top price of 90,000 guineas ($155,827). Sold in foal to Medicean, she was purchased by Paul Arnold on the behalf of Patrick Churchward's Westerlands Stud. Her consignor was Cheveley Park Stud.
The sale's second session was scheduled for later Tuesday.
