Wild Fit, an undefeated daughter of Wild Wonder
, will be favored to win her third race for trainer Jeff Mullins in the $200,000 Oak Leaf Stakes (gr. II) for 2-year-old fillies at Oak Tree's Santa Anita meeting Saturday.
The Oak Leaf has produced champions the past two years in Sweet Catomine and Halfbridled. Each went on to capture an Eclipse Award after winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I).
Wild Fit comes off a two-length victory in the Del Mar Debutante (gr. I) at seven furlongs Aug. 27. She defeated maidens in her 5 1/2-furlong debut at the seaside by four lengths 13 days earlier. The 1 1/16-mile Oak Leaf will be her first attempt around two turns.
Brewer Racing Stable and Murray Smith own the Florida-bred gray/roan, who breaks from post-position four with Alex Solis aboard. Her connections want to run in the Alberto VO5 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) at Belmont Park Oct. 29.
In spite of her inexperience, Wild Fit stands out in the field of seven.
Acceleration, another Mullins trainee, finished a fast closing second in the 6 1/2-furlong Sorrento (gr. III) Aug. 6 at Del Mar, 1 1/2 lengths behind Bully Bones.
Golden Silk finished sixth in the Del Mar Debutante.$200,000 Oak Leaf Stakes (gr. II, Race 4, 2:12 p.m.), 2-year-old fillies, 1 1/16 miles
