Jockey Frank Olivares, riding his first race since 1990, finished second aboard Laffit in Sunday's fifth race at Hollywood Park.

Olivares, 53, who has been training since his his retirement from riding, was the former conditioner of Laffit, who rallied to finish two lengths behind the winner, favored Slew Stew, in the $10,000 claiming race. However, 4-year-old Laffit, who was claimed from Jerry Fanning by Paul Aguirre, did not return for unsaddling and was vanned off.

Olivares won 1,775 races from 1968 to 1990 and his mounts earned more than $30 million. He was a main rider for Fanning during his career.

"I've been missing it quite a while," Olivares said before the race. "Everybody's been wondering about it, but I know I can do it. I never quit riding (while training)."
