John Andreini has been appointed to the California Horse Racing Board by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Andreini, 78, of San Mateo, is the founder of Andreini & Company, one of the largest privately held insurance brokerage firms in the United States. He replaces John Sperry, whose term expired in July.Like Sperry, Andreini's racing background is with Quarterhorses. Andreini has raised Quarterhorses since 1968. He is currently a board member of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association and director of the American Quarter Horse Association Foundation. Sperry, a Democrat with labor roots in the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, was appointed in January 2002 to complete an unfilled term.The position requires Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Andreini is a Republican.
