(Edited track report)
A leg injury has apparently ended the racing year for My Boston Gal, winner of the 2002 Golden Rod (gr. II) and Stonerside Beaumont (gr. II).

Chester Porter, Phil Milner and Randal Bloch's daughter of Boston Harbor apparently suffered a minor fracture of the tibia during training on Tuesday at Churchill Downs. Trainer Carl Nafzger said the injury would not require surgery, but it would place her on the sidelines for at least 120 days. My Boston Gal was examined at the Hagyard-Davidson-McGee equine clinic in Lexington and remained at the clinic on Thursday.

My Boston Gal had recently returned to training after undergoing throat surgery following a fifth-place finish to Bird Town in the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) and the injury apparently occurred during what had been scheduled as her first breeze since the Oaks. That breeze under exercise rider Karen Salisbury was interrupted by the blast of the horn that signals either a loose horse or an accident on the racetrack.

"She had worked about an eighth of a mile and she pulled her up between the three-eighths pole and the quarter pole," said Nafzger. "She never stopped her -- she just pulled her up to a 'two-minute lick' gallop so she could move around and be more maneuverable, and not have her just running."

Nafzger said My Boston Gal showed no signs of distress on the track.

"She galloped on around here and they pulled up and came off the track," said Nafzger. "But by the time she got about a hundred yards of the track and nearly to the barn, she started walking on her toe."

The injury continued a hard luck year for Nafzger, who has seen injuries end the careers of stable stars such as Belterra and Binthebest.

But the prognosis for My Boston Gal's return to racing are promising. "The chances of coming back are very good," said Nafzger.

My Boston Gal has a career record of 4-1-0 in seven races and has earned $411,251.
