In a new promotional effort, Keeneland will publish a preview catalogue for its September yearling sale, which is the largest Thoroughbred auction of its kind in the world.
"Since we're not having our July sale this year, we wanted to make sure that people knew what was coming up in September," said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland's director of sales.
The preview catalogue, which will be mailed to Keeneland customers around July 18, will have a consignor index and a sire index for the yearlings listed in books one and two (the sale's first four days). It will also contain a sire index for the horses in books three through six. In the preview, Keeneland will introduce a new format for the sire index that will be used in all its future sale catalogues.
The regular catalogue for the auction will be mailed around Aug. 13.
"We'll have to see how well it goes," said Russell, when asked if Keeneland would publish preview catalogues for future September sales. "We haven't thought further ahead than this year."
Russell declined to reveal the specific changes that would be made in the sire index.
