Trainer Bernard Flint joined an elite group Saturday when More Than Pretty won the 11th race at Oaklawn Park to give the trainer his 3,000th career victory.

According to Equibase, the industry's official database, only 20 trainers have hit the 3,000 mark since records have been kept.

Born in New Orleans in 1940, Flint was a detective with the New Orleans Police Department and part-time trainer before electing to train full-time in 1976. He earned his first win in 1969 at Fair Grounds. Flint has won 213 stakes races, including 18 graded events, and has been the leading trainer at Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Oaklawn Park, Hoosier Park, Ellis Park, Turfway, Canterbury, Sportsman's Park, and Balmoral.

Of Flint's wins, 542 have come at Turfway Park or its predecessor, Latonia. Flint has been Turfway's leading trainer for a record 20 meets and has led all trainers for the year a record eight times. He also holds the record for most wins in a single meet, 44 during the 2003 winter/spring session.

Among his wins at Turfway and Latonia are 31 stakes, including multiple scores with Tempus Fugit, Ask the Lord, Discreet Hero, Seven Four Seven, Sold to Wallstreet, and My Sea Castle.
