Report: Kentucky Commission Sued by Ex-Employee

The Kentucky Racing Commission has been sued for a former employee who said she found violations by other commission employees and reported them, and then was fired.

The Lexington Herald-Leader, in its June 24 edition, said Rena Elswick, a 16-year employee fired March 21, filed a "whistle-blower" lawsuit in Franklin Circuit Court in Kentucky. The newspaper said Elswick alleges she was fired in retaliation for reporting mismanagement of funds, fraud, waste, and abuse of authority, but the suit doesn't offer specifics.

Racing commission attorney J. Bruce Miller told the Herald-Leader the suit has no foundation. Elswick and her attorney wouldn't comment.

Elswick worked in the racing commission office and also served as a judge at Standardbred racetracks in the state the last few years. In the suit, she has requested to have her job back, the newspaper reported.
