Godolphin Racing announced Tuesday that UAE Derby (UAE-II) winner Discreet Cat will miss the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and will be pointed toward major races during the second half of the U.S. racing year. The 3-year-old son of Forestry will be shipped to Belmont Park to resume his domestic racing campaign.Explaining the decision today, Godolphin's Racing Manager Simon Crisford said: "Discreet Cat is a really promising young horse, but after assessing the situation, Sheikh Mohammed has decided that he would prefer to give him more time," Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford was quoted on the Godolphin Web site. "We see him as an important horse for Godolphin both later this season and next year. He won't actually be three until May so we want to give him time to develop. Although we have no specific targets in mind for him at the moment, Discreet Cat will not be running in any of the Triple Crown races."Bought by Godolphin after winning his maiden at Saratoga in August, Discreet Cat won a minor conditions race over a mile at Nad Al Sheba before winning the UAE Derby by six lengths.
