Dettori Picks Up at Longchamp after Ascot Success
The day after finishing as the leading jockey at Royal Ascot, Frankie Dettori picked up where he left off at Longchamp Sunday, winning aboard Sheikh Mohammed's Doyen in the Prix du Lys (Fr-III).The Andre Fabre-trained son of Sadler's Wells was given a confident ride by Dettori, who held him at the back of the four-horse field before asking for response in the straight.Doyen collared the leading Mosogno in the final furlong and only had to be pushed along with hand urging to post an impressive four-length win over the previously unbeaten Policy Maker. Also on the Longchamp card, German invader Lucky Stable's Lucky Strike just held the flying finish of Millennium Force to take the Prix de la Porte Maillot (Fr-III).The 5-year-old son of Petong led at every post, but Millennium Force, last in the field of seven most of the way, was closing with every stride under Chris Catlin to miss by just a half-length.Demonstrate raced prominently just behind the leader under Richard Hughes, but John Gosden's 5-year-old weakened late to be third, a length behind the winner.
