Former U.S. superstar Timber Country--a past visitor to Australia when he stood at Arrowfield Stud--is returning down under. Currently standing in Japan, he will stand at Lee Fleming's Eliza Park Stud in Victoria at a fee to be announced. Fleming, son of legendary Australian breeder Jim Fleming, recently just missed out on securing U.S. grade I winner Nothing to Lose for stud duties this year.
Timber Country's attraction to Australia is simple--he is the sire of current Australian weight-for-age star Eremein, a five-time group I winner who has earned $4 million (Australian funds). Timber Country's other Australian stars include group winners Timbourina, Sam Sung A Song, and West Country.
Fourteen-year-old Timber Country (Woodman
--Fall Aspen, by Pretense) was named champion 2-year-old male of 1994 and captured the following year's Preakness Stakes (gr. I) for Graham J. Beck's Gainesway Stable, Robert and Beverly Lewis, and William T. Young's Overbrook Farm. He has sired 17 stakes winners.
