Hear No Evil Sees Little Danger in Unbridled

Favored Hear No Evil registered an impressive gate to wire victory in Saturday's $100,000 Unbridled Stakes at Calder Race Course with jockey Eduardo Nunez in the irons.

A homebred owned by Jacks or Better Farm and trained by Jim Hatchett, the chestnut 3-year-old defeated Whos Crying Now soundly by three lengths. King Cassia was another length back in third.

Sent off as the 11-10 choice after the defection of the morning line favorite The Name's Bond, Hear No Evil returned $4.20, $3.20 and $2.40 for the win. He covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:46 3/5. Whos Crying Now returned $3.60 and $2.40. King Cassia's show price was $2.60.

"I think even if Frank's (Gomez) horse (The Name's Bond) hadn't scratched, he might have had a tougher time catching us today the way the race was run," Hatchett said.

"I think I had the best trip and the best horse and had something for the end. I got the best break in the race and he went to the lead. About half way I knew I had something left," Nunez said.

Hear No Evil first showed promise as a 2-year-old at Calder in winning the Criterium Stakes last July. The son of Carson City has now won five races from 16 career starts for earnings of over $337,000.
