Doug Arnold of Buck Pond Farm announced he has purchased multiple Irish group stakes winner Bernstein and will stand the 3-year-old son of Storm Cat for $10,000 live foal at his Versailles, Ky, farm starting in 2001. Campaigned by the partnership of Michael Tabor, Sue Magnier, and Elizabeth Moran, Bernstein won four of eight races and earned $173,120. The deal to buy Bernstein had been in the works for several months and was completed the night of Oct. 30. Bernstein is available for inspection at Buck Pond.

Bernstein captured the Coolmore Stud Home of Champions Concorde (Ire-III) and Anheuser Busch Railway (Ire-III) Stakes. A full brother to graded stakes winners Caress and Country Cat, Bernstein was the highest-priced U.S. weanling in 1997, selling for $925,000 at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale to Demi O'Byrne. Bernstein's dam, La Affirmed (by Affirmed), is a half-sister to champion Outstandingly, and Bernstein's fourth dam, Busanda, produced the great Buckpasser.
