Grade I winner Skimming and Breeders' Cup runner-up Thunderello
were represented by their first winners in late May. Skimming's first winner, Skewing, won May 27 at Emerald Downs in her first start. Bred in Washington by Dr. and Mrs. Duane F. Hopp, Skewing won the 4 1/2-furlong race in :53.20 for a partnership that included Jack Arnold.
Millionaire Skimming (Nureyev--Skimble, by Lyphard) captured consecutive runnings of the Pacific Classic Stakes (gr. I). He stands for $7,500 at the Sahadi family's Cardiff Stud Farm near Atascadero, Calif.
Thunderello, who ran second in the 2002 NAPA Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I), was represented by his first winner when his son, Gonetoground, won May 28 at Delaware Park. Bred in Florida by Paul R. and Mary Anne Denes, Gonetoground won by 5 1/4 lengths after running the 4 1/2 furlongs in :52.53 for Speriamo Stable.
